London, we love you!
Every year our school organizes a project week for all the students to deal with topics that go beyond the scope of usual lessons. Some of us ninth-graders visited England during this week.
The trip started on Sunday at 11pm. We met at school and started our journey by bus. During the ride, we got to know each other, played games and slept for a while. The hours passed and we reached the ferry, which brought us across the English Channel to Dover. From there we continued our journey by bus again and had a stop-over in Canterbury. Canterbury is a beautiful town where we visited many lovely shops and take the first few photos of an English city. In the evening, we finally arrived in London where our host families were already waiting for us. We met our really nice families and had dinner at their houses.
The next morning, we met at the bus and had a guided bus tour through London City and parts of Westminster City. We saw many sights, like the London Eye, crossed the Tower Bridge and learned a little bit about the history of London. It was truly a nice tour and our tour guide entertained us with useful information and fun-facts alike. After the tour, we went to Madame Tussaud’s where we “met” many celebrities, TV characters and even some members of the Royal Family. We then had some free time that we spent in small groups to explore London.
On Wednesday, we visited Cambridge, a city known for its legendary universities, and trotted through the old town. Later, we also did a bus tour with an audio guide that informed us about stories behind some of the colleges, such as Jesus College!
On our final day, we went by London’s famous tube to explore London. First, we visited the Tower of London where we also saw the stunning crown jewels of England. There was so much to see and learn. Then, we crossed the Tower Bridge to reach our next stop: Borough Market. Borough Market was a very crowded but nice place where we tried delicious food and snacks. After this tasty stop, we went to St. Paul‘s Cathedral, where our group split. Some of us roamed through the city, while the rest of us went inside and even climbed to the top of the cathedral. From there we had a breathtaking view of London, it was a fantastic experience. Finally, we had some more free-time at Piccadilly Circus to do whatever we wanted in England’s capital. We were able to purchase some last-minute souvenirs and to enjoy the bright lights and busy streets of this part of London. It was our final evening and it was absolutely delightful.
A few hours later, we were already on our way back home. We talked, laughed, sang, ate and slept. We took the ferry again and hours later, we arrived at home. I’m sure we can all agree that it was an amazing experience.
