Exchange with Lady Hawkins’ School in England

In September 2025, class 9.2 took part in an exchange to the small town of Kington in England.

We all had our own host families, and even those who couldn’t stay with a family were welcomed at the local hostel.

On Friday, the 19th of September, we arrived in England and spent the afternoon with our exchange partners and their families. On Monday, we went to Bristol, where we did a Banksy tour and saw a lot of the city and its beautiful sights.

After that, on Tuesday and Wednesday, we went to Cardiff and Swansea, where we had lots of fun in an escape room and during a treasure hunt, and we learned a lot about Swansea’s history at the Waterfront Museum.

Visiting Hereford Cathedral on Thursday was a very interesting experience. We had a guided tour and learned more about the history and architectural style of the building.

On Friday, we took part in Founders’ Day and got a glimpse of a normal school day at Lady Hawkins’ School. We also walked up the Ridge and made new friends along the way.

On the last weekend, we spent time with our host families, met up with friends, and watched a movie at the local cinema.

The exchange was a great experience and helped us not only to improve our English skills but also to become more confident when speaking English.

We all really enjoyed it and made new friends – it was something everyone should experience at least once!

A great trip to London

On Monday, we started our class trip to London. We flew with easyJet to Gatwick and then went to our accommodation, the St. Paul’s Youth Hostel right next to St. Paul’s Cathedral. So far, we have already seen some amazing highlights, for example the London Eye, Big Ben and Tower Bridge. The atmosphere in the city is really exciting and we enjoy walking around together. We are looking forward to the next days and many more adventures in London with Ms. Sund and Ms. Bachmann.

First Student Exchange with a school in the UK since the end of the pandemic

Hello everyone!

This article was written by a student from 8.2, the grade 8 English class.

What is the English class (“Sprachklasse“)?

In this class you have other subjects in English, too.

You start off with Music and History (bilingual lessons) in grade 7.

Each school year, another subject taught in English (e.g. Biology) is added.

What else does the English class do?

We also participate in many projects, like a performance for parents/teachers on stage or even

a student exchange.

In 2024, the first student exchange with a class in the United

Kingdom (UK) since the end of the pandemic will take place.

What is a student exchange?

A student exchange is like a school trip, but still a little bit different.

All students of the grade 8 English class could apply to take part in the exchange.

They had to fill in a form and hand it in to our class teacher Ms Bachmann.

The people who were accepted were then given the e-mail address of a student that lives in

England. All the exchange students from there go to the same school.

By communicating by e-mail, etc. you get to know your exchange partner until the

actual exchange. During the exchange, the students from the UK stay with you for about

10 days (in this case June 2024). In the next school year, it is switched and you

get to stay with your exchange partner for 10 days (in this case September 2024).

If you want to find out more about our student exchange, please watch the video.

Enjoy!
