Student Exchange with Lady Hawkins School in Kington, United Kingdom – Part 1 (3 July – 12 July 2024)

Fourteen students from year 9.2 are taking part in a student exchange this year.

On Wednesday 3rd July the students from England arrived at Berlin airport late in the evening.

It was the first time we 9.2 students had met our British exchange students, who would be staying with our families.

The next day we met at the school and showed our visitors around, we also did a city rally and took the ferry across the lake. It was a fun first day and we got to know each other better.

On Friday we took the train to Berlin and did a sightseeing tour, it was really cool because we used VR headsets to see pictures of old Berlin. We walked around Berlin and at certain

places we put on the headsets to see the pictures of, for example, the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989.

Over the weekend, the exchange students spent time with their host families and went on many exciting trips, such as trips to Dresden and the Baltic Sea.

On 8 July we went to the Germany Museum. It’s a modern museum built in 2019. It’s got many different rooms that are themed after certain periods of German history, each room smells and looks like the time it’s themed after.

The next day we went on a boat trip from Treptower Park, it took about 2 hours and the boat went along the Spree all the way to Köpenick where we saw lots of cool sights. Afterwards we went back to Strausberg and had a big BBQ with all the students and parents of our class 9.2. We had a great day.

On the second Wednesday of the exchange we went up the TV tower. It was quite scary because we were up there when there was thunder and lightning, but we had a nice view over Berlin.

On the last day we went on a jungle gym, it was fun and a good way to end the week.

After ten great days it was time to say goodbye.

We are now looking forward to our trip to the UK from 23 September to 2 October.
